Ume - Sunshower EP Review
-
Artist:
Normally when I'm introduced to a band through an EP, I leave myself high reservations. Why? I'm typically listening to and reviewing 3-6 songs. It's a far cry from realizing a band's full potential through a full album.
But that's where bands like Ume (pronounced ooo-may) come in. Ume's new disc, Sunshower EP, is a brilliant look at a new band with a penchant for highly moving music.
Imagine if you will, Lush but replacing the My Bloody Valentine space hooks with Sleater-Kinney's ambitious dexterity and you get the progressive feel of Ume.
Even limited at five songs, Sunshower EP is an epic view of what Ume can accomplish. The easy grooves, the pounding rhythms and the beautiful voice of vocalist Lauren Larsen. Backed up by Eric Larson (bass) and Jeff Barrera (drums), Ume's sound is not to be taken lightly. The trio arranged its pieces in a way that's both catchy for the casual ear yet mouth-watering for those looking for something different.
Sunshower EP grows more fulfilling with each second that passes, giving Ume the magic touch that so few have found on any recording. The magic of putting out a disc that has no throw-aways. All five of Sunshower's songs will ring true and call you back for more. At EP prices, Sunshower is one that can't be missed.
