Sugary sweet sounds

Most of the music I listen to is what I consider "serious music" - serious in the sense that it was written with at least a substantial amount of genuine artistic integrity. But I also like certain artists and songs purely for the fun factor. (Most people would call these guilty pleasures, but I don't because, well, I don't feel guilty about liking any of the music I'm into.)I don't mean to make it sound like I always make clear divisions and call one band serious and another fluff. Nor do I mean to make it sound like I don't take "fun" music seriously to some extent.Anyway, Cathy Dennis is one of the "fun" artists I'm a fan of. I've sort of rediscovered and have been playing her first album, "Move to This," a good bit lately. It's a great pop-dance album with some sugary-sweet songs. While her second album, "Into the Skyline," was a bit of a disappoint as a whole, it has a few really good songs too, most notably the ballad "Moments of Love."Her appearance on "Beverly Hills, 90210" in 1993 - performing at the characters' senior prom - is quite memorable, even all these years later (can't wait for that season to come out on DVD).She hasn't been a recording artist for about a decade, but she's continued to work in music, writing hits for other artists. And judging by this photo, she's still hot. It's not official, but here's a MySpace profile dedicated to her with some music on it:www.myspace.com/cathydennis
