  1. Wahiawa786 says There was a military draft, Vietnam was in the news, civil rights and student demonstrations were in the forefront. (Yep, it was 1967.) An upperclassman, famous for his collection of up-and-coming Rock, Blues, and Acid music put "Cheap Thrills" on the GE stereo and Janis Joplin roared out to my unprepared ears. Then and now I thought that "Summertime" was a standout cut on the LP, as Bessie Smith was suggested as a baseline to compare this newcomer. I'm still an old folkie who has a Jazz jones, but the Blues does pop up on the playlist now and again. Now it's time to put the streaming video-capable Mac G4 PowerBook aside and upload a Blues-tinted .mp3 track by John Cruz from Ye Olde G3 Pismo.

  3. sleezyjo says The year was 1970, and I was 7 months pregnant, living in N.Y. there was the Summer Festival for Peace at Shea Stadium. It was packed with all sorts of folks. Some of the performers included,Peter, Paul, & Mary,Edgar & Johnny Winter, The cast from Hair, and then here came this blur of purple boa feathers, a sparklie something and some scarfs, then a sound I have never forgotten.....Janis Joplin. Well done Beth, and thanks. Sleezyjo
