The Ronettes: members of the rock and roll hall of fame

Posted over 2 years ago
I know it may seem a bit cheezy to include an Eddie Money video in a tribute post to Ronnie Spectre, but to be honest, when this video came out in the 80's, I was NOT hip to Ronnie Spectre. This vid hipped me to her.Cool blast from the past 80's video, no matter how you slice it.

  1. Jonny Magic says Cool Ronettes Video! My dad was a big Phil Spector fan (and I mean a fan of his productions skills, not his lifestyle) and we listened to lot's and lot's of Ronettes when I was growing up. I always had a crush on Ronnie after I heard her beautiful voice on 'Be my Baby' (I did like the song alot, but luckily I didn't develople any unhealthy Brian Wilson-like obsession with it.) Then my dad told me she ended up being married to Phil Spector and I was crushed, especially after seeing that creepy picture of Phil Spector dressed up like Santa Clause for years and years on his 1975 "Phil Spector's Christmas Album." I will always have a place in my heart for Ronnie though, and I will never get tired of hearing her timeless melodies. I'm happy they got inducted into the "rock hall of fame" even though it should be called, 'The music hall of fame only for musicians that have established themselves among the masses (not necessarily in thier life time) and sold a very healthy number of records to the general population.' I think that would be a more realistic title for what it actually is.

  3. dermahrk says Thanks, atman. Loved watching the Ronettes, who are definitely my favorite girl group from that era. I bought the Phil Spector (not Spectre, by the way) box set "Back To Mono" years ago. Some might say the success of his artists was all due to his production and that they were interchangable cogs, but the tracks that remain on my iPod are mostly the Ronettes songs. The rest have fallen away. They really had something special, and I'm thrilled at the recent R&R Hall induction.
