WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

there are a lot of deceased musicians that I feel sad about, but I have to say that when Stevie Ray Vaughan died I broke out into tears. I mean, he'd been struggling with drugs and alcohol for years, and right when he'd cleaned up his act and had a great album out, he up and dies. I collected all the newspaper clippings I saw about him dying and I still have them. I have a whole file folder full of clippings about dead rock stars. His death was a huge loss.

  1. Ace says I know exactly what you mean. At one time it seemed like most of my favourite musicians were dead. I made a list. Then I thought I'll make a list of my favourite musicians who are still alive. That didn't cheer me up much!

  4. RGM says My H.S. rock band guitarist and I had planned to go see him just before he died. Funny how he died (not ha, ha) but in a weird way, it was his style. Kinda Buddy Holly, Big Bopper traggity. Not trying to glorify it, but I always... I don't know? Thought it was fitting, glad it wasn't drugs and alcohol...

  5. sedagive says It's just awfully random. I mean, Stevie Ray dies in a plane crash, but then Keith Richard and Ozzy Osbourne just keep going.

  6. atman says yeah. and then what was it, like 6 months later or something, that Bill Graham died, again in a helicopter. That was a really freaky time.

  7. joseexist says Randy Rhoads,,, That crushed me. Stevie Ray hurt even more. I was just getting into his playing. I have to say a lot of people emulate their heroes but I've only met one person who can do justice to Stevies' tunes. Young kid named Nathan. His playing will give you goose-bumps. He bought a strat in Houston and while he was trying it out a guy walked up and said "That's a good one". The guy walked off and Nathans friends came up to him all bug eyed. (He's a clean-cut christian guy.) They told him,"Dude, That was Eddie Van Halen!" He replies, "Who's that?" I played that strat at a party and it was sweet but Nathan Made it sound like Heaven opened up and let Stevie come visit.
