last nite i ended up going out to see my booking agent's band play. tho i'm pretty infatuated with him as a person, i'm not that into his band (it's allowed). as we're walking into the club he bumps into this girl he just started booking and introduced her as corrina. i put two and two together real quick and my heart began racing. corrina was corrina repp, whose song "finally" was the object of an obsession i had for the better part of last year. (to make matters worse, she's beautiful, and tho i have a beautiful gf myself, that stuff still makes me stutter.) rarely do songs demand repeated listens in my world, i'm more of a whole album kind of dude, but this song sunk it's claws in and wouldn't let go. I went ahead and tracked down a legal mp3 for your listening pleasure. i just listened to it again for the first time in awhile and it's dang near flawless. of course, we had lots of frenz in common (including her bf joe, of 31 knots, who i've bumped into several times over the years) and hit it off and i felt comfortable gushing like a fanboy. i knew it was a risky move since the electronic record that spawned the song was a one-off collaboration and i'm sure there is newer material of which she is more proud. she took it without batting a lash and we got into a good discussion about distaste of the female singer/songwriter tag, which she was able to temporarily shake after that recording. it dawned on me that many of my favorite artists are female, but none of them are "singer/songwriters." i would even go so far as to say, that there's nothing i hate more than a female singer/songwriter. and with enuff beers in me, i might even try to introduce the idea that non-singer/songwriter female artists number in the tens to twenties. who's with me?

I too was smitten with that song last year -- caught wind of it randomly (via a coworker) and couldn't stay away. Here's another link to that song, plus a second track (all free and legal, yes) if anyone's interested in hearing a bit more. (BTW I'm not adding the link to plug the Web site I work at -- just want to pass along the music.) I picked up the record, and have to say I'm way more into that one track "Finally" than anything else on the album.

She is an amazing talent! Hers songs for many are made up of quiet hours of introspection mixed with longing and hope for the hurting heart and world.
