electric president

"mog works for me!...or how i got schooled by a sixteen year old."so i stumbled on "this fellow's":http://mog.com/Hmmm mog and saw sandwiched between "two artists i should listen to," malcolm middleton and chad vangaalen, was a band whose name i had never heard. now i luv malcolm to pieces, and if i could, would have him play at my wedding some day, and chad van gaalen is a newer sort of obsession, but something i think i may fall hard for before year's end, so i thought maybe this kid is onto something. i did a little research and without trying too hard, was able to download 7/10's of the album "legally" online, including "good morning, hypocrite":http://radicalface.com/music/goodmorninghypocrite.mp3 from the boys themselves (http://www.radicalface.com). today i did my duty and went and purchased the album from one of them old fashioned record stores and have been listening to it all afternoon. it is overflowing with weird electronic gurgles and blips but stays grounded with some crisp sounding piano and acoustic strums. i hear elements of sparklehorse and another favorite, little-known band, yuppie flu. pitchfork, who sadly gave the record a six point something, compared it to deathcab for cutie and i can see where they get that but i think it misses the point. these songs are more delicate, but less precious - swans floating on a pond of static just going wherever the breeze blows them. they're not trying to be beautiful, but they are, and i think this one might get stuck in my cd player for awhile.
