Rock/pop singer/songwriter Matt York was born in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, the son of a high school music teacher who assisted him in learning music, although he did not take formal lessons. He self-released his debut album Under the Streetlights on June 27, 2005, and it had sold nearly 8,000 copies by the time Rock Ridge Music signed him for his second album, Mine, released November 4, 2008.
