i think 'white chalk' is perhaps the most organic, cohesive album i've heard so far this year. a minor masterpiece.i can't say the same for radiohead's new album 'in rainbows'.we're in familiar territory and the thing is, i want to disappear, i want to get totally lost in the light, in every atom of colour.the palette and the pigments are more or less defined, mixed to perfection, applied with rigorous craftsmanship, though, perhaps over-refined?this is a fine album, much better than 'eraser'. i anticipated that thom woulddo on that album what polly has done on 'white chalk', but he overcooked it.besides, the songs weren't up to scratch.there are three songs on this set where the chromatic resonances deviate from the lustrous 'second life' utopia -'bodysnatchers' 'weird fishes/arpeggi'and 'jigsaw falling into place'.in rainbows, highways of sublime colour bleed from the ether into the ever shifting substrata ... it might even inspire me to write a serious review.my favourite songs :nudevideotapefaust arpall i needreckoner.
