And when I die... (part 1)

Posted almost 5 years ago
There was so much on the web - the podcasts and the mp3 blogs - about the passing of Alice Coltrane, that I felt it best to wait. For me, the irony of her death is that I always wanted her rendition of "Going Home" to be played at my funeral. "Going Home" is the final track on Lord of Lords, first released on vinyl in 1973 by Impulse!. The album is only available on CD in Japan (released in 2005). There is a lot of good music on it if you can find it.As Alice, describes "Going Home" in the original liner notes:
Going Home is a gospel-oriented spiritual that is sung in homes and churches throughout the United States today. It was one of my parents’ favorite songs. Gospel and Spiritual musuic are some of the greatest Attributes of the Creator to have been bestowed abundantly upon the children of the Nile, i.e., African Americans. ... One day I asked of the Lord about coming Home at the end of my life. The Lord said to me, “[Alice], you will not have to come home, you will Be Home.”
Well, here is "Going Home"

  2. spaceling says There was a Philly band, E.D.K. (Empress Dowager Kollective), which often sampled her with Faust to good effect. I'll try to post one of their tracks for you in a few days.
