[mostly unrelated and innapropriate!]
these self-described shoegaze indie rockers (three of them!) from LA have created an ethereal and beautiful song, capturing enough attention to be included on the 2005 film "Elizabethtown". i caught the movie this weekend when i happened to be at home and my mom had gotten a few movies from the library. the soundtrack is quite appealing and the movie quite quirky and intriguing. orlando bloom stars speaking in an american-english accent. this song in particular really entraced me...
i had it on repeat for at least two hours today while doing homework and walking around seattle. at times, i actually felt like i was in a movie. i also recommend "passing by" by ulrich schnauss. the rest of the soundtrack is stocked with the likes of tom petty, elton john, ryan adams, my morning jacket, and even pinback (on vol. II).
i haven't heard anything else from Helen Stellar, but i'm about to, as i just downloaded a few tracks from their myspace. i like this description of their sound (also from their myspace): "HELEN STELLaR draws comparisons to London's "shoegaze" movement of the early 90's with thunderous drums, thick-grooved bass melodies and distorted guitar bliss. But elements of their sound transcend the genre. For one, the vocals Jim's voice soars above these huge compositions with its emotive capacity, bolstered by heart spun lyrics"...

"at times, i actually felt like i was in a movie."
I love when music, or anything, makes me feel like that, kind of like the euphoria you get after seeing a really good film in a theater. ( or maybe that's just me? )

Liking that first song quite a bit Ardy. Not heard of them. They kinda remind me of Sigur Ros. Love that vid. It reminds me of the scene in the movie "Magnolia" where all the characters sing to the Aimee Mann song "Save Me". This is a great song too:
as is this one:
Haven't seen the movie Elizbethtown yet. When it came out I heard it was a subpar version of "Garden State" so I didn't bother with it, since I adored "Garden State".

That is a cool song. Cameron Crowe is always good for a nice soundtrack. I liked the bonus features on Elizabethtown when he was talking about the music and how it affects him. I also enjoy staring at my shoes!

Yum, that was a nice lil' song right there.

dach...although sometimes it can be dangerous because sometimes i felt as if ACTUALLY in a movie, but apparently the cars zipping by me as i almost walked into the street didn't know it.
augusts...ah yes. nice songs, especially the second. honestly, i didn't see a connection to garden state at all, but now that you mention it i sort of see it. maybe the destination is the same, but the journey is wholly different.
fistula...ooh. bonus features. that sounds like fun. he does make a good soundtrack. ah, you shoegazer, you.
dale...ear candy. for sure.
charley...and i can't believe i hadn't seen or heard any of it until now. good thing you had it tucked away somewhere...
sam...i thought this might work for you. it's on a playlist with 'night lights...' and it all works together very well.
