is it too early...
...to name my top ten of the decade?
i had a friend on facebook post his list (in chronological order) of the top ten albums of the this decade - a decade is almost over. whoa. that blew my mind.
so, out of the spirit of things, i created my own list. keep in mind that most of my music listening phase didn't start until 2005, and of course, i have not heard every great album out there. but this is what i came up with! it's fun to think about...reminds you how your tastes changes, how music changes, what songs really stick with you over years and years.
pitchfork's top albums of the decade are also out - many of them surprised me.
i'd like to see your lists! although some of you are probably waiting until december...and i have thought about that too. what if my favorite album of the decade comes out in the next two months??? well then, i might have to have a version 2.0!
TOP TEN ALBUMS OF the 2000s: chronologically
- The Postal Service - Give Up (2003)
- The Arcade Fire - Funeral (2004)
- TV on the Radio - Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes (2004)
- Sigur Ros - Takk (2005)
- Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise (2005)
- The Decemberists - Picaresque (2005)
- Annuals - Be He Me (2006)

this is going to be a fun list to think about, so much music, probably going to have to go through multiple iterations anyway! props to Arcade and Postal, they are amazing albums! what is Miracle Fortress? I am intrigued by the name. It doesn't seem too early, 9 years and 10 months is close enough, lets start the lists!
So i guess the decade officially ends on December 31, 2009? Meaning 2000 counts as this decade. Morphine "The Night" would be on my list but yours look pretty darn good. I would definitely consider a lot of yours on mine.
Oh and BTW - not too early - 2 months early on a 10 year span? Not too early at all...
exactly, madrid! i'm sure that my list is not quite polished yet.
here is one by miracle fortress...very chill and very Beach Boys-like sounding at times.
eric- i've never heard that album! i'll have to get on that.
It's only too early because this question is making my brain explode. Egad!!!
Wow--I actually have one of these albums (Pictaresque). I tend to avoid such lists because my purchases are always about ten years old by the time I get around to buying them. But it's fun to read the lists others create.
i honestly dont want to think about it. i mean, more power to you, but that would be torture for me! i hate to pick and choose, and eventually i would have pro/con lists out... and, it would just be a mess.
dale...explosion, commenced?
groon...i see your dilemma! and its all for fun...
sam...you think too much :)
i do. totally true.
awesome post, ardy. i am both surprised and happy to see Friend and Foe, and Five Roses up there. Funeral's definitely a huge fave of mine, but the idea of making a list like this is already driving me nuts. (:
I definitely hear the Beach Boys influence...dreamy stuff, I would check them out if I see their name come up again
