i posted previously on 'the lonely forest', a three-piece band from anacortes, wa (i would call that 'local'). i received some negative feedback, but i press on...i saw john van deusen, the keys and vocal force behind the lonely island, play a solo show at the q cafe last friday with andy davis and garage voice. the whole thing was good but this song, 'i blame us', in particular stood out to me. shortly after, i found it for download somewhere on the internetz, put it on the ipod, and left it on repeat for quite a while. i'm a sucker for emotive and extremely talented piano players, and although he gets melodically yell-ly [yes, i said yell-ly. its not quite screaming, so...] at times, for his vocals as well. good song, good message. he's amazing live and this recording doesn't quite do the song justice (in addition to the fact that it was recorded about 3 am, to his admission). i'm excited to once again see his band, the lonely forest, play this saturday night!in addition, i had heard of/listened to 'the one am radio', the project of a guy with a really wicked name [Hrishikesh Hirway...kindergarten must have been hard for this boy], some time ago and was reminded when sam posted on him a while back. yesterday, at the sonic boom fremont-store-closing-sale (a very bittersweet event) i found his 'this too will pass' for $1.50. and it was well worth it, to say the least. i ended up getting six items (five cds and a dvd) for twelve dollars...but i will miss you, fremont store!) and enjoyed this one the most out of all of them. once i have a chance to listen to the whole thing a few more times, you may get a review out of me. but maybe not.in order to keep this from getting too convoluted, i'm going to end this now...please check out john van deusen!
