a good friend of ours and the resident arbiter of all things swell in and around chicago recently tipped us off about anni rossi, whose debut full length album, rockwell, was released yesterday on 4AD. after watching a video or two and listening to rossi play, we can see where the excitement comes from. she doesn't so much play the viola as own it, wholly; check out this video for "wheelpusher," which shows up on rockwell:
