These are in no particular order, but they are my favorite top 10 albums of all time. It was not an easy list to make. As I scrolled thru my iPod, there were a number of albums that could have been here, honorable mentions all of them, but this was the list I had to whittle down to. My criteria included how long I have loved it, how I couldn’t live without it, enjoyability while listening with headphones, and of course, all of the personal memories tied up with the songs and album.
Cocteau Twins – Heaven Or Las Vegas Elvis Costello & The Attractions – Best Of Joe Jackson – Jumpin’ Jive Joni Mitchell – Blue Roxy Music – Avalon Steely Dan – Aja The Postal Service – Give Up The The - Dusk They Might Be Giants – Flood XTC – Oranges & Lemons
There are so many albums that are getting serious play and rotation right now in my life, but I wanted to weave in the memory factor, the emotion I have tied to it, for whatever reason, to make the list complete.
I would love to find out what would make your favorite 10, couldn’t live without albums.
BTW…Thanks to Dachmo, who posted about Brian Ferry here. It got me on the Avalon / top 10 thought wave.

My Trusted MOGs
Oh no, my head's swimming! So many good albums! Give me a few, I'll come back with a good list.
My Trusted MOGs
A better question than "Best Album Ever", but still daunting. If I thought long and hard I would probably come up with a different list but then again you shouldn't have to think long and hard about your favourites.
1a) Legend - the Best of Bob Marley & the Wailers 1b) Greatest Hits - James Taylor 1c) Skylarking - XTC 1d) Night and Day - Joe Jackson 1e) Paris 1919 - John Cale 1f) Fisherman's Blues - The Waterboys 1g) Give Up - The Postal Service 1h) Rocks the House - Etta James 1i) Stop Making Sense - Talking Heads 1j) Compact Snap - The Jam
there's so much left out, I can't look at it anymore or I'll start making changes...
My Trusted MOGs
BTW, I like your list.
OK, here you go, my top 10, in sections:
The All-Timers - The albums I can never foresee outgrowing, or of which I will never tire: My Bloody Valentine - Loveless Joy Division - Closer The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies
The Memories - Albums I've loved since I realized I'm a music junkie, in high school: Depeche Mode - Some Great Reward The Cure - The Head On The Door Bauhaus - The Sky's Gone Out
The Lifeboats - These two albums got me through some of the lowest times; newly married, child on the way, lousy job, no money: Lush - Split Ride - Going Blank Again
The Album That Shall Not Be Named - See here Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites
My Trusted MOGs
Thanks to the D's for the EXCELLENT choices. I especially appreciate the further breakdown by category. All hail king of the categories, minutia & detail.
I was torn between Skylarking and O&L, but the memories with O&L just won out.
My Trusted MOGs
Understand, O&L came out when I was just starting college and my mind was else where. Skylarking Joe Jackson and pretty much everything Dale said provided the soundtrack to my High School years, I don't know where I would be without Head On The Door.
Dale is there some way we can get that post from Chucky as well as the link to the MOG 501 on Subter set up as a "essential reading" for all new MOGers? I've always heard about these EMCD's but didn't know from whence they came.
My Trusted MOGs
I like 6 out of 10. Guess you are one of my Trusted Moggers now. Sorry.
My Trusted MOGs
Which 6 made the cut? Or maybe I shouldn't know. Best not to know. Don't ask...don't tell.
My Trusted MOGs
And right back at you Neill. Sorry.
My Trusted MOGs
Must ponder, and return. Excellent lists there annie and dachmo. Are we really only limited to ten? Cheers.

Lord, I just had to close my eyes and remember whole albums that made my life worth living at various points in my life. A very brain testing Q. A lot of that others have listed are also close to my heart, and it was hard to not choose them, but a little variety goes a long way with me.

Yea Danny, I struggled with 10 too, but I honed, and walked away with a satisfying list. Yours, of course, is original. Perfect.
Dusk & Dar - Great lists, but I can't ask tomorrow. But feel free to adjust. I was so close to Lincoln with TMBG, but Flood won out. I have a signed CD by both of the John's...story to follow in November about that.

My Trusted MOGs
Hey Danny, I would like to be the first person to welcome you to the 21st Century.
We have neat and magical devices that seem to conjure music from the thin air.
One is called the CD. and the other, digital music player ... come on. say it with me ... dig - it- al music player.
I'm joking of course. Nice list.
My Trusted MOGs
My mind always goes blank when I see these posts. All I can think of is - and there are many many more -:
1. Derek & The Dominoes - Layla and Other Love Songs 2. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks 3. James Brown - Side 2 of 'Live At The Apollo Vol. 2'
The last one is even better on CD, where it's not edited down, but I can only think of it as Side 2.
My Trusted MOGs
You know, there was a time I could do that list. I can't after MOG! Sorry.
I'm sure my list would include Joy Division, Morphine, Arctic Monkeys, Garbage, Placebo, Smiths, Muse, Interpol, Editors, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, Death From Above 1979, Afghan Whigs, Primal Scream, Underworld, Tricky, Prodigy, PJ Harvey, Archive, Girls Against Boys, Depeche Mode and many more.
(see, I really can't do it!)
My Trusted MOGs
Everyone's top 10 will always be different. And as pointed out will be subject to change even on a daily basis as mood and new albums being released have their affect. I was actually going to post my top 10 on my Mog but found this one before I got a chance :)
So, in no particular order...
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine The Who - Quadrophenia Rush - 2112 Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare Hawkwind - Live Chronicles Within Temptation - Heart of Everything Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast Pink Floyd - The Wall Megadeth - Youthanasia Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
And just proving to myself how this list changes with each time it's revisited that's actually different to the list I had written down for the post I was going to make...
My Trusted MOGs
hhahahah, good one chris. d-d-di- g-g-g- i can’t do it. we will see 20-30 years from now how many of today’s bands don’t sound corny, and then maybe i will include some of them in my list... maybe. good lists, everyone.

I'm glad you participated Alex....all, um, 20 were worthy of this list. I keep getting bombarded by Julian Cope references...maybe the universe is trying to tell me something. Neill, you can't go wrong with the Cocteaus...how do you feel about Hugh Cornwell's single work? Check here for one of my favorite vids by him. Soul, don't change a thing. Anna, my list sure has gotten longer since mogging, but these are my meat and potatoes.
Good lists one and all!
