MELT-PROOF AND SCRATCH-RESISTANT

Where have I heard that before?

Posted over 2 years ago
Have you ever been in this situation?Walking past a store, cafe or restaurant, there's this song playing. You know you've heard it before, in fact, you have a strong memory recall to it, but you don't know who it's by or what the name of the song is. Of course, there's no one at the establishment who can help you. Not their job. But the memory recall is so strong, you want to find out, you HAVE to find out. How do you remedy this?On and off, for a couple of years, I have had this song playing in my head. I associate it with one of our trips to Europe, but I can't exactly remember where I was or when, and I seem to hear it in the background soundtrack of the world around me. Absolutely maddening. Then a couple of months ago, me and wzgirl were at the DeYoung Museum in SF. After viewing a beautiful exhibition about the Quilts of Gee Bend ( http://www.quiltsofgeesbend.com/ ), we stumbled into the gift shop. Holy Schemoly! There was the song playing on the sound system. With fingers crossed, I asked at the counter, and they not only knew the song name, but had the cd for sale. It has since become our favorite cd to play around the house. I leave you with the track that drove me crazy. You will probably recognize it...I just love it. The bass is infectious.

  1. wzgirl says And, ever since that trip to the de Young, I will always associate that tune with you and the ladies of Gee's Bend! You = Rue de Paris Me = SF Museum looking at quilts from the deep South. Quite the contrast.

  2. Anonymous says Argh! You don't know how frustrating it is when that happens & then the employee your asking gives you the blank disconnected stare like they have no touch with reality. Recently that's happened about 3 times within the past 2 weeks. Doh! Glad you found the song! & I enjoyed this one, reminded me of a cafe or night cafe or something heh! :D thanks for posting!

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says I usually get the... "you _like_ this song, shaaaa lady" Though they have the balls to call me "ma'am". Up until a year ago - I still got carded for smokes, but in some store that plays music, I am the crazy _ma'am_. Nuf to drive me crazy !!! But not as bad as not finding the song that gets you from moment one.

  4. soulrocket says the gotham project are huge here. love em. i usually get my requests answered when asking for a tune at a pub/bar. but then, most of the places I hang out in the barman plays cds so its easy to get an answer, unless the guy is on a lazy mood.

  5. moovyphreak says Sounds like something out of Amelie. And I quite enjoyed the crickets chirping at the beginning. I had one of those memory recall moments when hearing a song recently. I was watching the trailer for the upcoming film Talk to Me and heard a familiar soul tune being used in it. After an exhaustive online search, I was able to determine that it was The Spinners' "I'll Be Around." I have since made it my cell phone's new ringtone.
