We almost lost Lola last night...

Posted about 1 year ago

While I said I am a cat person (see previous post), truth be told, there is a dog in my life. Her name is Lola, a black and white rat terrier/chihuahua mix. She is my brother's dog, and she comes over to the house quite frequently. And if Kyle, my bro, is not there, I am easily the boss of Lola...she sits with me while I am on the computer, follows directions (as much as a Lola can), and follows me around the house.

Last night she was hit by a car around midnight. Kyle was cycling home with her, she lost direction and ran in front of a car. There must have been some external forces working to save that dog. I was calling Kyle, as he had just left his keys over at my house. He picked up frantically asking for me to pick them up...the accident had just happened seconds before. Later he confessed that he thought I had called because he thought I had heard Lola's scream when she was hit. I was able to get to them in minutes.

I got her in the car, and he cycled to my house to leave his bike. We rushed her to 24 hour emergency and after 2 hours of waiting, x-rays showed no internal damage or broken bones. She remained overnight for observation, given IV fluids, antibiotics, and stuff for pain. We saw her before we left. She was actually wagging her tail. She will be under observation for the rest of the day, but we are out of the woods and the worst of it is behind us. She should be ok...she is one lucky pooch.

Thanks for listening...I just needed to get that out. Phew...shaken, not stirred.

Damn, those experiences are gut wrenching.  IT's amazing she's okay, I'll never understand how that happens.  Weird little synchronicity of the universe though, with your last post though.  Best of luck!

Pyro...she's less of a Chihuahua and more of a Rat Terrier.  Think mini-greyhound.  And she is fast.  For my son's 11tth birthday we took all the kids and Lola to the beach.  I told the kids if they can catch her, they can keep her.  Not one kid came close to catching her.  She is a blur if she wants to be...yeah I am not fussy for Chihuahuas either.

Sorry to hear about this, but happy that it turned out on a good note. A girl on my soccer team recently had the same thing happen with her dog and it is never fun. I think what is the hardest thing is hearing your animal in pain, and there is usually nothing you can do to help them but pet em.

Kev - No offence at all...I love that kind of humor.  A joke from the leter section of "Viz":http://www.viz.co.uk/ (a Brittish comic).

How do you make a seal?  Take a black lab, smear it in grease and cut off it's ears and legs.

I didn't even find that offensive.  And it didn't even have a punch line.

Pyro - Very cute vid...certainly cheered me up.

Oh, the horror! I'm glad to hear that the little guy's doing well. There's no more hopeless feeling than seeing a pet syffer like that.

Glad to hear you're adopted dog is doing fine. That's always scary. Is you're bro older or younger than you?

I am the oldest with 2 younger brothers.  "Sef":http//mog.com/sefklon, 16 months younger and Kyle, 13 years younger.  It was Kyle's dog.  Lola and Kyle lived here for a year while he started college...now he lives on his own, but brings her over for visits.

Annie, I am happy to hear Lola is doing well. Prayers and incantations from the East.

Not a good thing to happen just before a big trip.

Oh dear. So glad to her that all is well.

My cat has recently diagnosed with a small emphysema in his heart and he has to go through an MRI scan; after that, we'll have to see :(
