WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Earth Hour (8:00 to 9:00 p.m.)

Posted about 1 year ago
Tonight (3/29/08), for 1 hour, cities all around the world will go dark...in celebration of "Earth Hour":http://www12.earthhourus.org/.We will be following suit in the Anderson household...We are inviting friends over, having an early dinner, followed by gaming by candlelight.
So moggers...what will you do when the lights go out?

  1. amber says Great idea! Great song! I've seen them talking about it on TV but is it 8-9pm whatever time zone you are in? Unfortunately, I'm going to be in the city at a CD release show. I doubt they'll be playing by candlelight, unplugged and acoustic. Not ??THIS?? band. ;-) But I do know Seattle is turning off most city building's lights and the Space Needle will be dark except for the blinking red light at the top. Wouldn't want anything to run into it.

  2. Dale says Uh, dunno, hadn't even heard about it until you said it.

  3. dachmo says Yeah I only first read about it about 15 mins ago, don't know if I could feasibly comply.

  4. Mike the Knife says Hmmm. Lights out at 8? No prob. Chez Moi, the lights will be out from sunset until 2 AM when I get back in from the clubs. Then, it's kilowatts to hell until dawn!!! (Just kidding. I'll get to sleep at about 5 AM.)

  5. annieander says Amber - The spirit is to celebrate it in your own time zone...Do not use the mog clock to synchronize your watch. Dale - After the post, I noticed that the Google home page is black...so more people will be in the know from that than from my little post. David - If possible I know you will give it the college try...if not...that's OK too...but in a perfect world??? Mike - I am so an early bird....always have been....I wonder if that is a genetic thing...the need to go to bed early. Gads...I sound like I am 70.

  6. Augusts1 says hmmmm, interesting. First I've heard of it too. I may go for it depending on if I remember to do so. Thanks for the headsup!

  7. annieander says Aug. - On second review...I find my question to be more provocative sounding than originally intended. Yeah...I am starting to shut down extra lights, and standby dependent systems. No pressure though...never intended as such. You were missed last night btw...would love to see you for the next meet and greet. Once again...no pressure though.

  8. Augusts1 says No worries, I didn't feel pressure at all from your post, just that I hadn't heard of it till now. And these are the types of things I enjoy contributing to, so no prob at all Annie. I tend to be a very environmentally aware person & do alot in my home to reduce, reuse & recycle. So this is right down my alley although my prob. will be to remember to do it since it's not a regular thing. Awwww, thanks Annie, glad to know I was missed at the Mog meet last night. There are a few people I'd like to meet like you. I had contemplated it for some time but had some health issues going on that kept me away. I had gone to the Mog 1 yr. anniv. party way back when but really only met one person(Kate, who was at the ticket office in front) since when I arrived I wasn't into trying to figure out who was a mogger & who wasn't. Perhaps at the next one(but then again I'm going to be at Coachella which will be another Mog meet). Great song btw.

  9. amber says Coachella must be an unofficial MOG meet. Lolla last year didn't get any official recognition either. Nor last October when 6 MOGGER's hit Seattle hard. Of course, if we aren't representing anything, then we don't have to behave ourselves. ;-)

  10. Augusts1 says Who cares if Coachella is an official mog meet Amber, we're going to have a total blast! hahaha

  11. darmuzz says I had two games of Scrabble by candlelight...

  12. runobodyii says Scrabble, I love you. I saw that google was black all day, but didn't know why it was.

  13. contrabandwidth says Well, apparently here in South Florida, we need the lights on so we don't trip and break our hip on the way to the bathroom. How come I dodn't know about this until just now? Talk about being in the dark...

  14. Augusts1 says I did this & read by candlelight for an hour & 1/2. It was cool, thanks again for the headsup Annie!

  15. annieander says Glad it worked well for you...My son wants us to do this at least once a week...everything by candlelight, he really dug the evening. Maybe it's because he beat us all in the board game we played...the cheeky wee bastard.

  16. Augusts1 says That's the way, get 'em trained early. That's cool he dug it so much. There is something really special about candlelight. I light candles often & love the ambiance they create.

  17. Jonh Ingham says Good candles are getting really hard to find. When I went through my Mum's estate she had boxes of really interesting candles and tapers, reminding me of how we used to have entire evenings by candle light when I was a kid. When I tried to find replacements for her tapers I couldn't find anything. A smooth batchelor could really score some moves on a lady by asking, 'Would you like to play Scrabble by candlelight?'
