Sometimes I have to listen to this album...

Posted over 4 years ago
I was a junior in HS when this album came out. 1986. Probably my best year in HS to be sure. I had my license and I drove a mint, stock 1971 Volkswagen Fastback. I had inherited it from my granddad, complete with an NRA sticker in the window. It was fast (fuel injected model that was new for the fastbacks)and the guys with their slammed down Beetles and Carmengias were envious. (this picture is not mine, but this was my color and car)I was no scholar, and I was lucky to graduate. My friends and music sustained me thru that time. And when you are from Fresno, that's what you need, transportation, friends & music. Enjoy!

  6. Lizziegreeneyes says I had a friend who had that car... handed down from his Dad... was a fun time indeed !!! (tho I don't think his was injected with any kind of fast fuel) ;P Can't go wrong with The Fixx either !!!

  7. annieander says The sad thing is that I ended up losing that car when I was a Senior. My insurance rates just got to high. I had to drive this. It had peddles and you had to mix the oil and gas together. If I ran out of fuel I was SOL, and had to peddle it home (like in 1st gear, nowhere fast). But the muffler was had holes bored in it so it did do a solid 40 mph. It was noisy as sin. But ohhhh, I digress.

  10. annieander says Dang...Brimful of Asha. I haven't heard that song in ages. Cornershop...where are they now? Your car was like a spanish version of a citroen. A distant cousin perhaps.

  11. wzgirl says Oh yeah, almost forgot - Dad bought the car for me with $200 of American Express checks. Took me forever to pay him back. But I did.

  14. contrabandwidth says I used to have a 72 Beetle (Actually first year of the super beetle, but it wasn't called a Super Beetle yet), and I had a tape deck (this was 2002ish) and a copy of Van Halen's "1984". I swear that car was a time machine, and I was Kevin Bacon in "Footloose" every time I popped in the tape. It just felt so right. Bad speaker, tapedeck, the ever present Volkswagen smell. Goodtimes.

  15. annieander says Oh...the Volkswagen smell...totally forgot about that. A mix of oil, gas, old leather and deteriorating dashboard. Agreed...goodtimes.
