Geographer - Live at Cafe Du Nord (1/14/09)

After learning about San Francisco band Geographer, I was on a mission to see them live. Fellow Mogger, August, accompanied me to the concert...not our first time attending a live gig together...definitely not the last.
Singer Mike Deni gave me permission to record and post. Anything to promote this band says I...Mike's vocals are beautiful and soulful, and when accompanied by the mournful cello, you just can't help but be moved.
Other Mogger, amber, will be catching their show in Seattle in February, and has gotten permission to photograph the show from Mike. I look forward to her shots...always better then the grainy photos taken from my iPhone.
One of the highlights of the evening was hearing their cover of New Order's "Age of Consent". August was very excited to hear it, so I had to include it.

Annie I want to listen but I can't.
Maybe break your stack into comments. Do the players work for you?
I'm going to try something.
How cool is that to have permission? That is awesome. Where did you hang the Sony?
You hung with August before didn't you? Come on ... dish.
August, is Annie the goofiest person you ever met?
Really, you don't see all the songs...I can see and play them all.
Shucks.
Yes, I saw The Phantom Jets (shudd33's band) with August, and believe me, the pleasure is all mine. August is a kick in the head, exactly how you would expect him to be.
I didn't hang the Sony...I hung on to the Sony. Kept it very close I did.
I can play all the songs...and they sound wonderful. I hope my photos are even close to as well done. It will be nice to finally take my big kid camera into a show.
I'll try a diff. browser.
That did it. Nice.
I think you got me hooked.
Yeah you shanked me.
'Can't You Wait' is golden. 'Each Other's Ghost' strike a chord in me.
You did good kid. I am there.
Cool, love the community marketing angle too. I think we as moggers should consider sponsoring a band some time. Kind of a co operative record label approach. It would be fun if everyone put in a few bucks and voted on an album to put out you know?!
Darn. I wouldn't have been able to make it, but I could have contemplated attending. Never heard of these cats until you intro'd them to me previously. Sounds like it was a good show and Du Nord is a great venue. Thanks for recording, getting permission and sharing.
Great job Annie, great recordings! Loving the NO cover even the 2nd time around! Thanks for all the sweet things you've said too. Backatcha dear.
*Chris* Annie is very laid back, easygoing & fun to hang w/as well. I wouldn't say she's the goofiest person though. She has a dry wit, which I enjoy alot. She's very intelligent & interesting to talk to. Definitely a great concert buddy with her knowledge of music & all!
Aug - I wanted the vocals to be more pronounced in the recordings...but that's just me. Nothing I could have done to control that though.
Consumer - Are you in my area? And we haven't met? That seems like a shame. Would you be up for a mog meeting in the future?
Oattie - Geographer might seem like a project, but it's really more of a case of being at the right place at the right time with the right band. But I like the idea of focusing on one band and spreading the word. It should always be as easy as this.
Chris - Right, I posted on the darkside for you too...please enjoy.
amber - I only wish I could see them with you...but you already know that.
p.s. It was a great concert. Geographer put on a good live show. I agree w/all that Annie's said.
p.s.s. It was a great concert....I agree with everything August said...especially the comments about me being funny and interesting and smart and pretty and nice and, ummm, yeah, all of the above.
Yup, it's all too true!
awesome!! tell them they must come to Boise and play :)
I'm in the yay area. A short walk from du Nord as a matter of fact. A meet up could be cool, but the superstitious side of me is worried that it might dampen the mystique. We should discuss.
Annie, love this review and the band, you have posted before no?
Cheers! INdy x
wow. what a cool post to sink my ears into. you done a massive job here annie! nice recording, beautiful sounds. nice choice for your red dot up there "Each Other's Ghosts" really perked up the ears, the cover is cool, and "Can't You Wait" proved to me I'm still a sucker for a bowed guitar. sounds like a fun nite...tanks for sharing so exclusively!!!
What a well documented concert. Every artist should be so cool. I feel I need to hear a proper Geographer album. They'll never play in Fayetteville, AR so it's nice to experience it through someone elses experiences.
Annie...since you and Mike Deni are such good friends, you should tell him to do a living room show tour...I know one place in the Seattle area he'd be welcome.
"Annie...since you and Mike Deni are such good friends, you should tell him to do a living room show tour..."
You are to funny. I also have power to control the elements. Wondertwin power activate.
I do love the Living Room show idea though.
YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CONTROL THE ELEMENTS? and you never told me...how about some heat for the PNW?
