Three years ago at this time, Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana, Mississipp and Alabama hard. The USA hasn't really been the same since.
The musical community, however, has always come to the aid of its brothers and sisters. In the wake of Katrina, many ad hoc charitable organizations formed for the express purpose to getting money and things directly into the hands of those affected, without them having to wait for the Red Cross or FEMA red tape.
This weekend, in Los Angeles, the first Dog & Pony Show will be held... proceeds from the concerts will go to provide medical assistance to the musicians who don't have insurance, or have out of control medical bills due to catastrophic illnesses - all the things we hope never happen....
Musicians donating their time and talent are:
Dave Alvin
The Knitters
Peter Case
Tex & The Horseheads
Big Sandy
The Blasters
Levi Dexter !
Its happening at Safari Sam's this weekend - Los Angeles

And poor N.O. looks as though it may be in the path of yet another - Gustav! God I hope not. I just know those "replacement" levees wont hold, since they were yet again compromised by our leaders! I'm praying for them.
God! That sounds like a weekend in LA circa 1981! Tex and the Horseheads? Levi? Given the reason for the festivities, I hope it goes well.
Tex and the Horseheads... next thing you are going to say that The Screamin' Sirens are gonna play... have fun.
