Getting My Tour Ready

Although I do not play in a band, I do my photo exhibits like a rock n roll tour.

After all, my subjects are punk rockers.

I posted a couple weeks ago that my tour Unguarded Moments: Backstage and Beyond was gearing up for the road.

The first date is October 25, in Oxford, MS at the One Night Stand at the Ole Miss Motel event, and a week later, I'm celebrating the Day of the Dead as Punk Rock Day of the Dead in Memphis, TN with some very special music.... and tamales, but of course!

The image of Lux Interior is one that will be in the show.

With a new tour, I revamped my website's look. Its at punkturns30.com and I also revamped my photo sales site, paring down the offerings to a select few images from the tour. Wanna Buy Some Photos?

My photo shows have always been filled with music - so if I'm hitting your town, be prepared to rock as well as gawk.

The Dead Boys started my whole photo tour when they did their 2004 reunion in Cleveland, at the Beachland Ballroom.

They invited me to show my photos of Stiv Bators, their late singer, who was one of my closest friends. I think I've photographed Stiv more than anyone I photographed, and also more than anyone else photographed him.

That was what I saw when I walked into the Ballroom. Three of my photos of Stiv, blown up larger than life, hanging above the stage, representing Stiv that night. The band did not have any guest vocalists. It was just the surviving Dead Boys.

While I think its appropriate my big brothers of punk rock chose my photos of Stiv... I was and still am pretty flabbergasted at the whole thing.

Gregg Kostelich, he of The Cynics and Get Hip told me that the portrait of Stiv I'd taken for the album, Disconnected was a big Stiv icon... who knew? Maybe you did, but I didn't!

Based on the success I experienced at the Dead Boys reunion, I started taking the photos on the road and started my photo blog, Punk Turns 30, as it was just 2005... punk was going to be 30... now it is 30 and even the Sex Pistols can't resist a gimmick; they're reuniting to play the 30th anniversary of the release of Never Mind the Bollocks. I thank them for timing it with my latest tour!

So, the Dead Boys were the first band to play one of my photo shows. The Reigning Sound were my second and third. We did the 2005 Horizontal Action Blackout together and the band played my opening night party at The Basement in Nashville for my June show. The Nashville Scene called us the Pick of the Week!

I showed photos during the CBGB benefit concerts, accompanied by my brothers, The Dead Boys, Cheetah Chrome's own band and old pals, Sham 69.

A month later, after Hurricane Katrina sent many musical refugees to Memphis, I was there too...showing at Goner Fest, with the inimitable Jeff Evans and Ross Johnson as the entertainment for my reception!

In 2006, The Gun Club accompanied the showing of my photos in a double-whammy event...the debut of the documentary about Jeffrey Lee Pierce called Ghost on the Highway at the Don't Knock the Rock Film Festival where I was proud to be one of three female photograpHERS (get it?) showing their vintage punk rock pix in a cool slide show on the walls of the Redcat Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, all throughout the event!

I drop all these band names to encourage you to come out and see my show - because I can also guarantee you a very good punk rock time in terms of a live music show too!

hope to see you on the road... I will soon be launching my tour website...don't worry! I will totally announce it like crazy, because that's where I'll post my itinerary.

  2. anna log says If you're in the Bay Area, I'll be up there in Spring 2008 - and will be making a lot of noise about it!

too bad I wasn't on the Mog last year to let all my new friends and punk compadres know - - in Sept 06, I was part of the BIG one-night-only "Its Only Rock n Roll" show at Roots Gallery in the Mission. It was much fun and there were crazy punk bands playing all night... and 100's, maybe even 1,000 images were there.

Punk fans may want to check out their book stores soon! PUNK365 by Holly George Warren is published Oct 1 and its got 365 fabulous photos (including 3 of mine) - real gorgeous coffee table quality viewing!
