2006 Recap; 2007 Excitement

Posted over 5 years ago
With all the retrospection and year-end wind down goin' on, I figured why not have it out. 2006 both kicked and sucked ass for music, but never I never doubt the ability of dedicated music-lovers (well represented by the Mog community) to find the gems and the jewels, sometimes buried deep down in the rough of obscure playlists and far off most people's radar. So as we send off the year that was in style, be it a drunken stupor, or a higher state of consciousness, or just a good ol' bash with friends and neighbors, what you gets you really hot as 2007 looms large? What albums, tours, or otherwise big events are you hopping about as we usher in the next round of pop, and not so pop-culture madness? Alternatively, what rocked your proverbial socks when it came to 2006? Or instead if you feel like kvetching, then in the timeless words of Peter Griffin, "What really grinds your gears," about the year that was or even about the year that's to be?So please feel free to show the love or rant the hate about what's gone down, or to look forward to what's comin' round! My 2 Cents:2006:The Good: Arctic Monkeys, Regina Spektor, The Hush Sound, Snow Patrol, Hurt, The 'Here It Goes Again' Music Video, The D in concert, Snow Patrol/Augustana in concert Jack's Mannequin/Panic in concertThe Bad: Nelly Furtado and Fergie wrote two of the worst songs I have ever heard in my lifeThe Ugly: Britney just keeps getting nastier, doesn't she?2007: Anticipated: New Collective Soul, Bloc Party, The Arcade Fire, NIN, Kaiser Chiefs, Smashing Pumpkins, I'm From Rolling StoneDon't Believe Til' It's True: Chinese DemocracyFears: Can opiate pop degenerate any further than it already has?Hopes: The next rock revolution (i.e. Nirvana circa 1990)Random: What was the best 'Yo Momma' joke from 2006? Wilder? Are you listening?Your turn. What have you got it? Get it all out here.Fare the well 2006Happy New Year to AllSee ya in '07Rock!- Cozhttp://abovethedin.blogspot.com - Freelance. Music. Blog.

  3. anna log says i am a list geek. i see your 2 cents, and raise you my own 2 cents: 2006: The Good: Superstars and Obscure underground artists made records comparable on a level playing field: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Tom Waits, Jack Oblivian, Good Night Loving, Viva L’American Deathray Music - each of these records is as good as the others, even if you have no idea who half these people are The Bad: My friend Randy Kaye passed away this year. He was a partner in crime during old punk rock days. Then he got a real job at Slash Records and signed artists like Violent Femmes, Grant Lee Buffalo and so many more. Bummer for the world: James Brown died, and on Xmas day; Ahmet Ertegun died, ultimately as a result of seeing the Rolling Stones: ironic, isn’t it? Also lost this year: Desmond Dekker, Gene Pitney, Buck Owens, Dennis Peyton (Dave Clark 5) The Ugly: I don’t bother looking at it or listening to it but boy is it out there!
    2007:
    Anticipated:
Mary Weiss with the Reigning Sound, new album and tour! Fears: more record stores go out of business. Hopes: people like what I do i posted my best-of list on my website: punkturns30.com
