i saw golden skans on mtv this morning and almost choked on my cheerios. especially with it being sandwiched between amy winehouse and silversun.

since when did mtv get so cool?

that's EXACTLY what i hate about mtv. big time radio stations too.

everyone just starts liking a band because everyone else likes them, it's trendy, it's popular.

i have a whole rant on it, but i'll save you the angst since it tends to put me in a terrible mood.

people should like things because they like them, not to be "hip", and not to be "different".

I haven't written in a while, so this is whats happening in my music world now. I had discovered Ivy last month, and I am extremely glad I looked into getting all their CDs. So far, I have "In the Clear", "Apartment Life", and "Long Distance". Im trying to find "Latley" EP because it has my favorite song by them on it, "I Hate December"...but so far its been a struggle. Really mellow, chill music. Like something you would listen to if you were sitting on a beach. They have had many of their songs used on TV shows, movies, etc. so some of their songs might sound very familiar when you hear them first. But so far i have been really satisfied in all 3 Albums!

While in London, we tried to pick up the hip albums from an British Indie standpoint, so me and my friend went to the coolest record store ever, Fopp Records! We asked 3 different people who looked like they knew music well what their favorite localish indie shit they could give us! Even though it ended up not being so indie, we came up with the Klaxons. Their sound is a clear British-Rave. They are now currently one of my favorites and I have woke up to their album, "Myths Of The Near Future" for the past 3 weeks. There are also some amazing remixes out on a couple of their songs. So here is my current favorite of theirs, "Golden Skans". I also love the remixed version of this one, but unfortunatley only 1 per post! :(

enjoy!

I NOW TAKE BACK THE RAVE COMMENT. KALXONS ARE NOT RAVE MUSIC.

Posted about 1 year ago

ok so a while back I wrote a post about CDs i look forward to getting, so here is an update:

- Math and Physics Club - MAPC (still, i know) - Starlight Mints - Drowaton - Architecture In Helsinki - We Died, They Remixed - Islands - Return to the Sea - Death Cab for Cutie - You Can Play These Songs With Chords - Sondre Lerche - his new album...unsure the name? - Albert Hammond, Jr. - Yours to Keep ( ill get it next week)

im going to sonic boom friday FINALLY so ill explain my reasoning for the need of these albums:

Starlight Mints: - I heard a few of these songs and was bedazzled. if thats a word. but they were really good. catchy, upbeat, poppy songs. You can get the 2 songs that i have free of the barsuk site: www.barsuk.com. its in the mp3/download section.

We Died, They Remixed: I love AinH, so after i heard the few remixes done by YACHT (wrote about with the blow post below) well i love those remixes, and im willing to take a chance on buying the whole cd.

Islands: Wasnt really interested in the Unicorns too much...until i recognized the Islands and then finally gave in and decided to backtrack to the Unicorns. BUT back to Islands. So, they sound really familiar to the Unicorns, yet more rock influence, less poppy, over hyper melody. I first fell in love with the song "Where There's a Will There's a Whalebone" i dont even know why i liked the song at first, but its come to be one of my favorites (even if it has this crazy rap-like singing in the middle). Then i came upon their more popular song, Rough Gem. This one takes on the more of the Unicorns feel, with a bit more pop than "Where There's a Will There's a Whalebone" But ive since accepted the Unicorns as a great band, so this came on as another great song. I heard from friends and such that the whole CD is a great buy, so im jumping on the bandwagon!

DCFC: i already have this CD in iTunes form i just want a copy that i can hold its my favorite DCFC album, so I only find it necessary to have a REAL copy of it.

Sondre Lerche: - i dont really have a different explaination other than he is amazing.

ok, i shouldnt even be doing this right now i have 10 of dantes fucking cantos to read by tomorrow so,

on one last note, if there is any other suggestions that you think i would enjoy, chime in!

-Andrea

WAIT! ONE LAST THING!! do any seattlites know where to get Barsuk buttons other than ordering them online?
