So don't be frightened.I'm really enjoying The Crane Wife, the new Decemberists CD. My top track choices are1) Sons and Daughters- It's another classic shanty like song from Colin Meloy that's really happy and cathartic, with a really pretty round and some nice banjo playing.2) The Island- It's about 12 minutes long, but it's really catchy, especially the middle portion entitled "The Landlord's Daughter," which is about as close to "pirate rock" as I think anyone will ever create. There's a lot of "The Tain" in here, if you listen closely (or, hell, at all)3) The Shankill Butchers- Finally, another creepy Decemberists song, reminiscent of "Cautionary Tale." It's a decent album overall, and I'm sure I'll get into the other songs as I listen more. It's definitely not as poppy as Picaresque, and despite that album being my favorite Decemberists LP, it's a good thing.
