So I'm supposed to start mogging?

Posted over 5 years ago
Shit, I don't know what to say other than I'm just trying to get a handle on all this mogging stuff. So maybe one day I'll be articulate enough about the music I like to be all academic and/or talented in writing about it, but for now I'm more of a consumer than a critic and I like to keep it that way. I like what I like, and if there were a gun to my head, I suppose I could justify it all with fancy words and shit, but for now it's not a life-or-death situation and I prefer to sit on my laurels and let other people do all the work.

  1. Lirpa says Mog isn't fancy words. Or shit. Just about sharing what you like. For the love, read one of my posts and see that we were not all English majors in college or have any aspirations beyond telling someone "hey, this band was pretty sweet at the show last night" or "these guys are wankers, I wouldn't recommend them". And maybe some other stuff along the way. So ok, sit on your laurels and see what others are saying, but do me a favor? If you find a band or record you just LOVE LOVE LOVE, let us know about it. And then maybe someone else will fall wildly in love with it. See, now doesn't that have the potential to make you feel all warm and fuzzy? Welcome :)

  2. amelia says Yeah, I know... I just don't think about music too intellectually (or, actually, too critically) and so talking about it as though I do seems a little odd/pointless. But I'm always blabbing about new bands I find over on MySpace, so I'm sure I'll do fine here, too, eventually (albeit in ways that mark me as a musical idiot).

  3. RobP says Methinks I'm gonna mostly just agree with Lirpa. There's a wide variety of styles of posts on here, sometimes folks write like music critics, sometimes just like fans, sometimes it's not even a music post (which pisses off some people, by the way, but usually not if it's friendly, non-commercial, and doesn't include a ton of pictures or really long text - and if you really wanna throw a ton of stuff in there and you're worried about buggin folks, write a brief post then write a comment with the ton). There's pretty much no rules here, just common courtesy and common sense, so I'd say do whatever you want however you want and if anyone gives you a hard time blow em off. Cuz it's a real high percentage of friendly folks here. Despite my presence. Cheers.
