MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: Boys & Girls In America
Track: all of them

I fell for The Hold Steady at Lollapalooza 2006. Very nice show. I bought their recent album, Boys & Girls in America. Terrific. And I vowed not to miss them this year at Lollapalooza. I didn't.

He's got it right; they are number one! (but he wasn't saying that at the time)

Sure, there was drinking...

...and emphatic, pure americana storytelling

...and the most honest, genuine appreciation for the fans I have ever seen in a live performance. And I have seen _a lot_ of live performances.

The Hold Steady was the highlight of my past weekend at Lollapalooza. They are one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Just listening to their music isn't enough; I understand those that say they don't _get_ the appeal. Of course you don't. You have to see them live and then you hear the songs in video, if you follow me?

And you should follow me...straight to their next show. This is a don't miss. Seriously

So glad you had such an amazing time seeing your band :) A favorite band is always a _"your"_ band in my book !!!

They haven't hooked me as yet & I TOTALLY get what you're saying - so I will give them another ride around the block & check them when they are in the Philly area !!!!

Oh, DO! So many people I talked to said The Hold Steady was the highlight of their Lolla. In 2006, my husband and I were just passing by and we stopped because they sounded different. We were sucked in. And they were even better this year. Amazing actually.

I HEART THE HOLD STEADY!!!

actually my new music crushes (and Lolla gave me 2) were the bass player from Kings of Leon ...._slurp_

and the nerdy guitar player for Aqueduct.

too far from KoL for a decent photo but....

I just _looooooove_ thick glasses....

I just want to go out for a drink with The Hold Steady

Aqueduct has me a little heart-racy as well... cute with specs - a very nice combo - add a string instrument - & you might as well stamp easy on my forehead ;)

I've also always loved a guy in braces - these days they guys with braces tend to be underage - so I've done my best to switch it to the guys with really straight teeth & nice smiles - then they can show me pics of when they wore braces...

it's a lovely gibson... but you have to get that pic up on multiply - he must be a part or my MOG Men Wall, Editors, Kaiser Chiefs, some guy in womens panties... that one gets the most looks

Yay!

The Hold Steady are just the best...one of my highlights at Sasquatch. My brother LOVES them, and had the pleasure of seeing them just before Sasquatch in a small club in Boise. LUCKY!

Great report Amber. Thanks for bringing Lala to me via your perspective. Looks like you all had a good time. Cool that you got to hook up with some fellow Moggers as well.

Awesome post, Amber - and you are spot on - it was a f*ing GREAT show filled with some serious love on both sides. Can't even believe I've missed them twice when they played here (I was out of town, but still) ... that will not be happening again. My newest musical crush is on Jim James (I think I can look past the huge beard ;) ) I loved My Morning Jacket before, but it has increased seven-fold after seeing them at Lolla...

ERIN! I am jealous...I have to see MMJ before I die. I suggest you purchase, borrow, find or ask me about Okonokos..it can be multiplied if needed. Seriously, MMJ is about the live sound like The Hold Steady.

Great photos Amber! The Hold Steady are just great on stage - it was worth getting soaked in the rain in London on the way to the theatre. And your new crush...it can't just be the glasses or the Gibson...surely it's the closed eyes abstraction of an artist speaking with his Muse.

It seems I have come to the right place. The Hold Steady, My Morning Jacket, and Kings of Leon were the highlights of my 2007 Lollapalooza (and also my first). I knew all about My Morning Jacket and a decent amount about the Kings to know they put on a great show, but I knew very little about The Hold Steady. My buddy told me to come join him, and I did.

The rest is history. The most enjoyable show Ive ever been to. The energy they put into their shows is unbelievable. A lot of bands can say stuff like "this is the most fun we've ever had" but NO one can show it like they did.

I'm now officially obsessed, and am going to see them at the Metro Oct 30th in Chicago. I'm counting the days.
