"you'll always hear the choir if you listen close..."

Artist:
It's been a long, long 3 weeks since I last went to see live music. Last night, I rectified the emptiness with a CD release show for Rocky Votolato's The Brag and Cuss at the Triple Door in Seattle.First, a couple of things about the venue. Some love it, some don't. I am of both schools of thought. The Triple Door is attached to Wild Ginger, a fabulous restaurant, and serves table side with a full menu and bar. This is why I love the venue.
And it tasted better than it looks...Anyhow...I don't like the venue much because of the distance you are kept from the stage. Seating is first check in-best table. Unfortunately, both my husband and I had to work that day, so we were NOT first to check in. Intellectually, I see there isn't a bad seat in the house. My gut and heart want to be up front, against the stage, making eye contact with the artist, feeling like a part of the experience. Well, not here and it feels a little cold to me.
Still, a pretty swanky place. Maybe I just have too much gutter rat in me to appreciate it completely. Now, on to the show. Those familiar with Rocky's other albums or his former band Waxwing, know he's mellow and folky. He has lovely, deep and sad lyrics that have often touched a chord for me. Last time I saw him, he was a one man show, playing his acoustic guitar and harmonica and sweetly charming the dive bar I was in. This time he had help, drums, bass, and guitar.I love a musician who's music is mellow and they bust out on stage. Rocky, well, uh, rocked out, changing my perception of what to expect.
Dammit, man, stand still!!!
That's better...Unfortunately (for me at least) the guitarist playing with Rocky has his hat firmly in the country rock court. He tarted up the tunes with twang only Loretta would appreciate. Yuck. After the show, I was getting ready to have Rocky sign my CD, and get one of my obligatory pictures with the artist, when a beautiful, 20 something brunette literally pushed me out of the way and started talking to him. He knew her through someone else, someone she was looking for and she pulled him away to find this someone. Bitch. He mouthed 2 words to me over her shoulder as she pulled him away. She was young, and gorgeous, and brunette and I was just, well, brunette. "I'm sorry"???? I doubt it. But nice show anyhow, dude. Before this post gets too too too long (since its already too long) I want to mention, I gave the CD a good listen today while stuck in this:
Perfect music to dampen road rage and I'm thrilled to announce the country was left in the city last night. Only one song (track 7-ugggg) made me forward past it but the last track is lovely and I would end with it, but am still having issues with uploading music. So, instead I will sign off with my signature...a picture of shoes. Rocky was too far away, so here's my own. Just bought these today. And ON SALE! Aren't they great =O)
