The Decemberists rock Seatte

Posted over 2 years ago
Disclaimer: I love these guys. The following review will be totally and completely biased.Last November, when the Decemberists were in Seattle, Colin Meloy was sick. Very sick. So, Colin promised to make that up to us last night. And boy howdy, did they! They played mostly from their current album, The Crane Wife, which was alright with me since I love it. I did miss some of their older standards such as Engine Driver or The Sporting Life, but such is life. This type of disappointment I can live with, if you know what I mean. Colin Meloy was obviously having a great time, happy and playful and cool. I mean, the guy drank red wine during his set. Water, common, Gaterade..sure, but red wine is just so, so, well, cool. The rest of the motley crew were fabulous also: I have a special affection for the Nate Query, the bassist. Of course, I do have a thing for bass players, but Nate is still very cool. The final song of the encore was, of course, The Mariner's Revenge Song. If you've never heard this song, you need to. But seeing it performed...WOW. Just WOW. They have so much fun with this, including the audience in the fun.But then, we were all swallowed by a whale and the lights came on and we had to leave. Boooooo. Parting is such sweet sorrow. Of course, I do have tickets to see them in July! Until then...

  1. SatisfiedMind614 says Thanks for the review Amber...they were someone I really wanted to catch at Coachella but didn't...some of the scheduling conflicts were brutal! From what I heard though they were really good there too....

  2. amber says bummer...who did you see instead? I've seen them 4 times now and loved each show. I can't wait to see them in an outside venue in July, right outside Portland (their home crowd!). I like them best in an outside venue. Too bad they aren't playing Lolla.

  3. SatisfiedMind614 says It was a no brainer for me, I had to see Kings Of Leon, and I am glad I did...one of the best 3 or 4 shows I saw all weekend!

  4. amber says OH! I'd probably make the same decision. Kings of Leon is on the top of my Lolla list and I've never seen them. They were just here in Seattle but I was in California so obviously missed them. But I would have shed a tear or two about missing The Decemberists. Are you going to see Kings of Leon again in Chicago? Were they that good?
