THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

Does it count???

Posted over 2 years ago
I have this "thing" about needing to see a show or concert every month and have kept this up for quite some time. In January, I had plans to see The Lashes but crap came up at work and had to bag the plans which left me with a break in the show/month stretch. I was rather pissed, stupid, I know but I had a good streak going. I think it is a testiment of the excellence of the Seattle music scene that I could see something worth while every month. Anyways, I spent the last few days of the month in Kansas City for work at a Year Beginning Meeting-first time I've been invited. Imagine my surprise when I found out they have entertainment planned and out walks Journey. Now, I called them Jouney-lite because Steve Perry left the band eons ago and the new lead singer just isn't Steve. He kinda sounds like Steve Perry in a "gosh, you must sing alot of Journey at the karioke bars" kind of way. But it was Journey. Then the last day out strolls Patti LaBelle. She was the real Patti, not some drag queen version. My question for you is: do these count to continue my show/month? I would never have gone to see them if they were in town. It was live music. Hmmmmmm. BTW, they also trotted out Emmit Smith, Stomp (the people who play garbage cans and shit), and Jeffrey Katzenberg (sp?) of Dreamworks.Blew my mind that they'd have all that stuff at a fricking meeting. So, there's my stupid question of the day---what do you think?

  1. darmuzz says I had this debate with myself too when I listed all my recent shows on my mog page. I didn't know whether to list that I'd seen the All-American Rejects, because I went as a chaperone! But I put them down anyway. If anyone thinks I chose to see them, I don't care. But should your work show count towards your concert a month? If the point is to treat yourself to a night out once a month, then I think you deserve TWO in February! Sounds like you work for a big-budget corporation!

  3. chucky says It counts even if you wouldn't have chosen them. Bonus that you got to see a show you wouldn't have normally chosen. But, I hear you on the Journey thing - maybe that one should only count as a half, because they aren't really Journey without Steve Perry.
