Take a walk with me?

It's beautiful out and I want you to join me. First, put on your headphones and hit play. Of course we have a sound track ! I have my ipod with me and we're in this together. The air is cold; the kind of cold that makes you feel thirsty but still makes you want to spit…go ahead and spit. I'll look the other way so you aren't embarrassed, or maybe I'll spit first.

Are you cold? Here's my scarf…I'm warm enough. Look up at the thin Pacific Northwest sun. It's so bright but not warming, and pale, like a ghost of the summer's sun. The sky is blue and cloudless; take a good look because that's going to become rare soon. Tomorrow's rain may strip the branches of the last of their leaves but for today they are silhouetted against the ether. Today they are the survivors of autumn's eraser, cleaning the slate for the next season.

Shuffle your feet through the leaves not so lucky and smell the musty musk of them. Close your eyes! How old are you now? Six? Eight? Opening my eyes, I feel sort of sad to return to today, but relieved at the same time. It's silly, but it's true.

It's quiet and for some reason I can only hear one set of shoes making the gravel crackle, but I know you are with me. And there's the bridge. Over the side! Look! The salmon are spawning still. The pink they turn always reminds me of faded ribbons under the water.

The trail beckons…let's follow it just a little farther. The trees are taller here, and I'll look down the path and then up, and make sure we are alone. We are, so here…lay by me…yes, on the ground. Look up. Amazing isn't it? Nothing like this to make us feel so insignificant and yet part of something too large to comprehend.

Here comes some horse riders around the bend in the trail. Whoops. We were caught acting foolish. Dust off your butt, and I'll brush off your shoulders and I know you have to be getting back. Thanks for joining me, though. Want to meet me here next summer, when the wild strawberries are ripe?

Sounds mighty good to me! A great time, a great post. Thanks for bringing me along!
I have to apologize for the yellow button...MOG isn't letting me upload MP3's OR photos...I found a way around the pictures but....
I put on my Concerned Ben Avatar for you and your mp3 problems.
well, thanks Ben (and Annie) for your concern. I've decided that it's just that MOG hates me. This is just one more thing I can't do on this site...I'll add it to the list.
Klyde: you're welcome anytime!
Did you notice that the album is named Amber....that's why I chose it.
it's really named Amber? coooool.
Lovely post Amber, thank you. Love the Bon Iver album as well.
god, this looked exactly like the walk I went on today minus the wildlife. Instead we had a lot of geese to look at, and they are quite wonderful as well
A nice autumn stroll, that does sound nice. Amd your words paint it so well. Next time, I'll be there, offering you the crook of my arm. :)
Just some random associative type stuff, pay it no mind.
(neu! - für immer)
Lovely photos, by the way.
Thanks Stefan! Bon Iver took me a little time to fall for but I've fallen hard.
Kevin--guess we were traveling the same path, just miles apart. It was a good autumn day, wasn't it?
Dale my sweet. You were with me. I had everyone I loved with me.
X? What was that? That would be a great soundtrack to the path, when I leave the camera at home and put on the running shoes! And thanks for the kind words about the photos. :)
It is a song called "für immer," which sounds kinda like "for emma," but means "forever." Neu! is the band.
Best autumn walk ever. Thank you, Amber, this is an amazing post.
Meet you there, next summer :*
Thanks for asking me on the walk. I'll be back next summer for the strawberries!
gosh, Amber, i died reading this post. the photos, the writing, what's not to love? your heart's in it, sister, i love that.
"The air is cold; the kind of cold that makes you feel thirsty but still makes you want to spit." - killer.
Anna and Jonh are needing plane tickets to Seattle for next summer! I love guests! :)
Illay: coming from you that means so very much. After all, you're the most talented prose writing sista around these parts. And you're right; my heart was in it. It was a magical walk and it soothed a lot of the rough edges my life was carrying around lately.
xoxoxox
oh gosh. i love leaves. and when seattle has blue sky.
it's been cold and CRISP lately...so lovely.
thanks for that. i always always love bon iver as well!
