WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Bewitched by The Warlocks

Posted about 1 year ago

Last night I had the immense pleasure of enjoying the company of The Black Angels and while they were stupendous, I was more thrilled by the opener, The Warlocks. I'm not saying they were better than The Black Angels, mind you. But I already knew I liked The Black Angels. And how great is it to walk away from a show with a new discovery, with a new music crush? Nirvana, IMO.

If you are a fan of psychedelic rock, you will probably like The Warlocks. Live, they were very bass and drum driven which doesn't seem to be the case with the music I downloaded from emusic. Last night I was stamping my foot along with the beat but tonight, with their music coursing through my headphones, I'm able to enjoy the vocals and reverb guitar. Both versions are A-OK in my book

The mood was helped by smoke machines and magical lighting. The crowd were mesmerized by the almost menacing beat and consistant performance by these 4 warlocks and the one witch, on bass.

She looked like the coolest librarian ever, with her nerdy glasses and baby doll hair style. Played a mean bass, though. Had great boots too. :)

well...the new MOG seems nice, except it would only let me post 2 pictures.  Now that just won't do AT ALL.

great post, sounds like a great concert!  i take it this isn't The Warlocks from the 60's, but good heavy music nonetheless.  either way, i'd like to hear it live after reading this...

Not being able to post photos?? Especially photos of shoes??? This will never do! But the review was good, yes, she looks like the librarian I want to help me to find books, and these Warlocks look pretty cool. Since the 60s Warlocks became The Grateful Dead, it's a good guess that these Warlocks is a more modern variety.

Nope, these were young'uns unless they have some sort of magic antiaging spell...and I want what their having, in that case.

Jonh...not just shoes but BOOTS.  I am going to investigate futher.  If I can't post pictures to go with my music, than I just can't be me.  :(

(Sorry, I didn't mean to nag you about the new WYSIWYG hot-linking)

After sampling your Warlocks' music, I too am under their spell. They sound like some fuzzed out Fugazi. Actually, they remind me of Experimental Aircraft (whom I discovered thanks to Jenny)

Me liking very much. Thank you ever so much for being my EMCD!

(PS: I looks like it's no longer possible to cut and paste the code generated by your mp3 upload directly in someone's comment -- you won't get the button. You need to get the code for embedding now)

I forgot to say: I too would like the bass-wielding librarian to hand me my books with or without kinky boots.

Great pictures, Amber -- thank you for sharing with us.

nothing beats going to a show and coming out with a new band to love. It has happened to me countless times, and each time I consider it such a concert treat............and like anna says, great pictures as always!

I'd like to officially thank Michael for fixing my post and adding the pictures like I intended.  Someone has to look out for me, in my lack of computer knowledge.  You're the BEST!

I'm honored and thrilled to attempt to be a EMCD and for it to be received positively...I learned from the King EMCD, my brother, my dearling.

Anna!  I feel pretty good knowing YOU like my sampling.  You can find the rest of the tunes on that ??other?? site.  :)

Kevin-you're right; nothing beats that.  It reminds me of trick or treating as a kid and getting a REAL SIZED Snickers in your bag.  SCORE!

Jaye, your "show" was more important.  :)
