Album:The Decemberists
Well. Hello friends. It's been some time since I've posted and I'm just certain you've missed me horribly. *Good News!* I'm back with prose and pix of my last couple of nights on the Seattle scene. :)So, without further ado....I give you Acoustic Nada Surf! The Seattle transplants tickled our ears on the 30th at the Triple Door, kicking off a short (but sweet) acoustic tour.
I've seen MOGGER "Matthew Caws":http://mog.com/matthew_caws and his band several times but never an acoustic show, although I suspected most of their tunes would translate well. And I was right. They were great; everyone was relaxed and happy, silly even at times. Nada Surf has a new album, *Lucky* coming out this Tuesday and they played a fabulous mix of old and new. (the new album BTW is terrific...I suggest you buy it ASAP)
Interesting was the drummer Ira's contribution: he sat on a wooden box and thumped it with his hands while playing the tambourine on his foot, creating an amazing percussion sound. Of course, as some of you may suspect, I got a couple of pictures of this.
Get a load of those shoes! Pat Boone would be so proud...except for the socks. I liked them though.*But Wait! There's more! The very next night I took my 7 year old, Bella (with Jaye and my husband) to see The Decemberists.
Since we had tickets and big plans for their cancelled fall/winter Portland shows, Bella was thirsty for the experience and Colin Meloy and crew did not let her down.
We were in front, on the left of the stage, but waited for the lights to dim before we sat Bella on the amps for a better view (security guys can be so annoying sometimes!). This ended up being the best seat in the house because Bella was the belle of the ball. Colin even bowed to her during one song.
He singled her out repeatedly, and during one of his audience participation schticks, she got to name our side of the crowd. "I need a name for this side" he cried and placed the mic in front of her mouth."My name is Isabel" she says and just like that several hundred people were calling out her name. I'm so very proud of my little groupie-in-training... *sniff, sniff*Even without the personal attention of the lead singer (sheesh), the show was the usual spectacular, frivolous romp that The Decemberists dish up.
The music was joyful, the crowd was lapping it up like a cat to cream and all left with huge smiles on their faces. Especially, my girl. All together now: *Ahhhhhhhhhh!*Good Times.Oh! And I know the shots of Ira's shoes were rather blurry so I just have to give you Jenny Conlee of the Decemberists' boots. I think I need a pair just like 'em.
