Track:Leaving for L.A.
Sunday night...most would be sitting in their living rooms, watching Ty Pennington and crying. But not me, or my fellow MOG-ettes, "Librarianguish":http://mog.com/Librarianguish and "Jaye":http://mog.com/jaye and "imsochilly":http://mog.com/imsochilly...we went to see Art Brut and The Hold Steady.
Now, we all know Sunday night shows can be rough and this was no exception. I hope that both AB and THS know Seattle can do better than that comatose crowd. I was actually ashamed of the audience and their lack of enthusiasm. Granted, the venue was horrible; it was an old classroom at the U of WA and everything was terrible from the sound to the lighting. And there was no alcohol...at a *THE HOLD STEADY SHOW* I know!Despite the lousy surroundings, Art Brut was fantastic. To be honest, I had downloaded one song of theirs quite some time ago, listened to it, and decided they weren't my cup of tea. WRONG! Live, they were funny; a kinda kooky charm and really rocked it. Loved them. And the lead singer, Eddie Argos, was a doll and entertained us after the show with conversation, autographs and a picture:
Then...The Hold Steady! No alcohol allowed (wretched all ages show) so Craig Finn was rather frantic but still so very amazing.
Although I discovered The Hold Steady before I discovered MOG, I feel like THS is a MOG band. There are many MOGGERs enamoured with the band, and rightfully so. Pure americana: Woody Allen crossed with Springsteen crossed with Leonard Cohen, IMHO.
And the final product is so so good. I'm not a religious person, but (at the risk of offending some) I believe music might be my religion. And last night, Craig Finn was my guide.
I leave you with no shoes (awwww...bad lighting and amps were against a clean shot) but one of favorite songs from Art Brut's set last night. Give them more of a chance than I did, OK?
