WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

These Bats aren't scary...

Last weekend I had a visit to my lovely city from "Zeroskilz":http://mog.com/Zeroskilz. We hit the town *HARD*, and so for our last hurrah on Sunday, we shifted down to a low gear for Bat for Lashes.Opening was Chris Chavez. This guy was an amazing one-man-band. He was rather earnst and spirital for me (he did lots of the praying hands/bowing thing) but he had a Kings of Leon bluesy sound to him and would play a 12 string guitar AND a regular acoustic guitar _at the same time!_ Sounded great, and at one point I realized I was standing with my mouth hanging open. I have never seen anything like it before. I should have bought the EP he was slinging, but I dorked.I didn't know what to expect from Bat for Lashes. I had listened to their CD wasn't blown away; some Enya-ish songs, some almost pop.The band has some strange dynamics: all were women dressed in some fancy pants costumes and makeup, a couple of them with a serious Stepford wife thing going on. But the lead singer, Natasha Khan, was adorable. She had a sweet, clear voice and a sweet, humble attitude. I completely enjoyed the music and the show, despite the fact Natasha had a creature in her throat that in her words, wasn't happy, and cut the encore shortThe Bat for Lashes show was a great end to a great weekend. We had rocked hard the previous three nights and needed something soothing like this, IMHO. I had a good time, and I hope Mike had a good time, and I believe Natasha had a good time too.

  1. dachmo says I like her music, a lot! but she looks like she hangs out with Devendra Banhart!

  2. amber says she was actually cuter than hell. I usually hate skinny, talented, young women with everything going for them, but her, I wanted to just tuck into a pocket and feed little bits of cheese or something, like a bird or squirrel.

  3. dachmo says Good to know! What kind of cheese?

  4. amber says Little bits of provolone. And just in case some of you think I'm losing my touch: Chris Chavez boots Chris Chavez's boot

  7. amber says The headband was gorgeous actually. I thought it might be an old flapper era rhinestone piece. I loved it, although I don't know if it would ever fit into any of my outfits.

  8. Augusts1 says Nice post darlin'. I enjoyed listening to Bats album although it's fairly mellow. Sounds like they were more entertaining live though.

  9. Dale says You know what? I just remembered; she not just cute, she's *qwute*.

  10. amber says Thanks August--I agree completely. The Bats CD was rather mellow for my tastes and they were more fun to watch than I expected, although still quite mellow. But after 3 nights of getting to bed after 3am each night, mellow worked for me!

  11. Anna says You guys think she's pretty? I always thought she was weird looking. Oh well, taste is subjective! So glad you and Mike get along so well. I like you both so!

  15. tybees says I nabbed the album but keep forgetting to listen to it. I swear I will! I'll do it! :) Great pics!

  16. amber says Anna: I didn't think she was pretty as much as adorable and sweet. But then, I don't like girls _that_ way (well, there was that one time in college...I kid, I kid). And I adored Mike, he tolerated me. Worked out well, in my opinion. Lizzie: I get disappointed at this point if the musician is wearing boring foot wear. Good thing they so rarely do. Ray/Ty: hope you like their music; I was so so on it until I saw them, as I often am, being a live music junkie. But the CD has a spot in my library and will be played when the mood is right. Hey Random! Try to catch them; was a solid show. Not ground breaking but solid. And at $10 a ticket, you really can't go wrong.

  18. poebegone says truly, the best thing about Bat for Lashes is Natasha Khan herself. i can't stop listening to Horse and I - although you were right, the rest of it didn't exactly blow me away. but she's still someone i'd like to giggle with.

  19. goodmusiconly says *FINALLY* getting back here to check your post ... sorry to be late to the game, A. I've only heard a few tracks from Bat for Lashes, but I like what I'm hearing. And I always lurve your shots. You need to get all these into a book, doll! I think the gal on the right in the third image thought she was going to a Star Trek convention?? :)
