I checked out the Fortified Summer Antifolk Fest in Tompkins Square Park this weekend. I have to say I have heard the expression and recognized some of the names but had never ventured too far into that realm. What an idiot I was! I heard some great and interesting tunes; from spoken word to border-line show tunes to spanish flavored punk ska. And everything in between. A couple artists that really caught my attention - The Bowmans - great lyrics and amazing harmonys. Trevor Exter - does things with a cello that would flip Yo Yo Ma out. Paula Volstein - her voice gave me chills. Would be interested to learn/hear more.
