Hello all...So when i was in 8th grade i remember sitting on the school bus listening to a cd sampler put out by Kung Fu Records. I had bought it because it had a couple of MxPx songs, and at the time they were one of my favorite bands. It also had songs by Josh Freese, The Vandals, and others. This would also be my first Ataris experience. It featured the songs "Summer Wind Was Always Our Song" and "I Won't Spend Another Night Alone". For some reason The Ataris stuck out to me moreso than any of the other bands on that cd, I was instantly drawn to them. The music was what I was in to, and the lyrics reminded me of the way that I thought. I kept up with them over the years and they became my favorite band. Every album captured the music I loved at the time and the lyrics that I was able to relate to because I was going through what felt like similar situations as they were describing.Fast forward to late 2005, they announce that they've been recording more demos and hope to release a new album in the near future. The demos eventually leak and I'm forced with the dillema, "should i listen to them now, or wait and hear it as the band wants me to?" I decide to wait, considering that they said that they hoped to release it in July of 2006. Little did I know I'd be waiting until February 2007.However, it was completely worth the wait, and I believe that I appreciate the album more because I waited. It gave the whole thing even more meaning. Again the music is what I'm listening to, and the lyrics I'm able to relate to and wish that I had written them myself. Kristopher Roe has always had that abillity. I don't want to call him my idol or anything...but he's definitely one of the main reasons that I'm playing music, and love it the way that I do. The album has gotten mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. Many saying that it has strayed too far from what the band used to sound like, that they're not that same pop-punk band that they grew up listening to. But those are things I'm thankful for. If "Welcome The Night" sounded like "Anywhere But Here" I would be really dissappointed. Not that their older stuff isn't good. It's great for what it is, what it was, and all that it meant to me at the time. However, I'm not the same punk rock kid that I was back then (thank God). I've matured, and so have The Ataris. Each of their albums has marked a kind of milestone in my life, ever since I started listening to them. This album is no acception. It's like the ending of one chapter to begin another. There's never been a band to affect me the way The Ataris have.I hope this finds everyone well!
