MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:

So I go in to my boss's office to play a track for him that I am very fond of at the moment. He sees the file structure of the volume on our server that I kind of keep for myself, primarily to keep my office music on. His eyes light up and we start discussing our relative tastes in music, which turn out to be remarkably similar. (It is a good sign when your boss freaks out that you have Gram Parsons albums.)

He starts telling me about music that his teenage daughter turned him on to, and the first band that he mentions is The Motet. Now I am thinking "Teenage daughter = sappy pop", so I am not in a particular hurry to find and listen to anything by these guys, but eventually I find some of their tunes and take a listen. He has a remarkable daughter. This music is smart, it is jazzy with a tight hook, it has a compelling afro-cuban backbeat, and it is very good.

It turns out that they are from Boulder, so I am going to be looking for a chance to see this lot in concert.
