Immediately following the dawn of the 21st century, all things '80s became back en vogue again. Case in point, the multitude of bands influenced directly by vintage new wave/alternative acts that began sprouting up. As evidenced by their five-track debut EP, 2006's Break, the Scottish quartet the Cinematics can certainly be included in this aforementioned category. It takes little time to realize that Cinematics singer Scott Rinning must have thoroughly studied his Morrissey albums growing up, because his vocals are certainly Moz-esque on such selections as the album-opening title track and "Burning Light." Another band that the Cinematics draw heavily from is Coldplay -- a cover of Beck's "Sunday Sun" sounds like a Morrissey-sung outtake from A Rush of Blood to the Head, while the closing acoustic ditty, "Home," also sounds like a Morrissey/Coldplay collaboration. Dig the Smiths and Coldplay? Then there's no reason why you wouldn't like the Cinematics.
