AMG Review of Lost in Love
Andrew Hamilton
All Music GuideFreda Payne had her chartbusters on Holland, Dozier and Holland's Invictus Records. Lost in Love features her biggest Invictus hit "Band of Gold," plus nine more from various periods for a mixture of Payne's hit soul sound and her less successful easy pop explorations. Ashford and Simpson's "Keep It Coming," on which she clones Honeycone's Edna Wright vocal style to a tee; Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter's (scandalous for the times) "You Brought The Woman Out of Me," a hit for Hot; and "Run For Your Life" stand tall on this collection of pleasant, inoffensive tracks. It's cheap too; pay for it with a ten dollar bill and you'll have enough change left for gas.
