AMG Review of Interference
Nitsuh Abebe
All Music GuideInterference falls pretty much in line with the majority of Elliott Sharp and Carbon's work -- the interplay between Zeena Parkins' electric harp and Sharp's untraditional guitar voicings are backed by a driving, rhythmic pulse, with the entire mix dominated by the same scratchily processed quality that marked Amusia. The album also adds a good deal of free jazzy saxophone skronks, which blend well with the general discordance and abrasion of the project; while it's doubtful that Sharp and Carbon need to spend a great number of albums advancing this sound (the album frequently seems to be retreading already covered ground), Interference pushes it along effectively.
