AMG Review of Glimpse: Live
Jared Johnson
All Music GuideSonicflood combined nine live recordings and two new studio tracks for its first release since 2004. Glimpse: Live followed the band's multi-continental trek through the U.S. and Belfast, Northern Ireland; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and the ~Big Boss Festival in Switzerland. Rick Heil and company were touring in support of This Generation, which accounts for the great amount of more recent material on this go-around. While it fails to shed new light on a prolific amount of material from the band's former lineups, it comes off as a balanced and flowing effort nonetheless. Heil leads the crowds in worship as he introduces several songs, revealing a definite lack of timidity in his gospel message. The trade-off for capturing this live energy is a slightly lower production level than can be found on Sonicflood's renowned studio efforts. Glimpse: Live works best as a straight-through listen. It is a must-have for fans, and a superb, energetic effort that introduces new listeners to CCM-rock classics like "Open the Eyes of My Heart" and "I Want to Know You."
