The Madcap Laughs

On what served as the final legitimate look at Syd Barett's warped genius, The Madcap Laughs gave fans one last look at what made the former Pink Floyd member so special in the first place. While there are shades of his former band's sound on standouts like "Octopus," Barrett proved that he could as create a proper pop-rock tune on cuts like "Terrapin." Still, it's the fact that such wildly different songs can exist on the same record that remind you of Barrett's desire not to be boxed in, that his desires on some level were to be strange and provocative, and The Madcap Laughs was the final time he managed to do this while sounding objectively enjoyable.
