AMG Review of Greatest Love Songs [Hip-O]
Al Campbell
All Music GuideHip-O's 2004 budget-line Tom Jones release Greatest Love Songs gathers 17 popular romantic themes taken from the balladeer's late-'60s/early-'70s catalog on Parrot Records. While the disc contains several classic moments, including "It's Not Unusual," "Help Yourself," "I (Who Have Nothing)," and "Love Me Tonight," the selection is too haphazard to make the collection a good introduction. For instance, why wasn't "She's a Lady" included? Nevertheless, it's not bad as a sampler, but The Best of Tom Jones on Polygram is the recommended set.
