Despite being remember by many as a creating a cheesy take on the British Invasion sound, the sad passing of Davy Jones should give listeners the fresh set of ears the band's debut album deserves. While "(Theme From) The Monkees" is still the iconic fun we've always known it to be, songs like the poignant "Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day" and the upbeat "Last Train to Clarksville" showed a band capable of sharp songwriting in melodies without ever trying to take itself too seriously. Jones will be missed, and giving this album another spin and smiling is the best tribute we can possibly think of.
