Although it seems a little soon after the Barcelona Nights: The Best of Ottmar Liebert compilation the year before, 2002's The Best of Ottmar Liebert is a more rounded collection from the flamenco master. His mixture of new age keyboards and traditional Latin ballads makes for quite the pleasing mix, and the track sequence reflects his songwriting and arranging growth through the years. Starting with his lighter early material, moving on through the brooding-yet-up-tempo feel of his mid-'90s albums, and finishing off with the energetic flow of his work around the turn of the century, The Best of Ottmar Liebert does a good job of summing up his output. Because of the nature of greatest-hits albums, some fans may find problems with the tracks chosen. But overall this collection has a nice flow and showcases the talents of Liebert in an even and interesting way.
