Bright's 1996 self-titled debut album mixes a deep fondness for Sonic Youth's quiet, expansive moments and the group's own dreamy, poppy sensibilities. Though the results are somewhat derivative, they're also enjoyable and well-crafted; songs like "Enthusiasm" and "Point" balance song structure and improvisation with just enough dynamic tension to keep things interesting. Quieter songs like "Lake Killala" and instrumental pieces like "Elting" and "Canal" prove that Bright's sound has enough depth and versatility to overcome its influences, making Bright worthwhile for fans of expansive yet accessible guitar panoramas.
