With a sound that was highly derivative of late '80s/early '90s dance-pop groups like New Order and Depeche Mode, Moenia didn't break any new ground. However, the fact that this band sprung fully formed from Mexico City, singing in Spanish, makes it a little more interesting. Also, their third CD, 1999's Adicion, did not have the quality of a cheap rip-off -- rather, it sounds fresh, multilayered, and contagiously groovy, which makes all of the many, many similarities between their sound and the music of a decade ago forgiveable.
