Some ten years into her career, progressive folkie and LBGT advocate Ani DiFranco opted against complacency, turning in an ambitious double album. On the first disc, Reveling, DiFranco crafts an energetic atmosphere, incorporating soulful funk instrumentation. On the second disc, Reckoning, Ani travels a familiar path with the introspective acoustic-folk style and self-assured vocals that fans have come to expect. Although the album wanders in many different directions, one thing remains consistent: Ani's bold and sometimes piercing songwriting. Revelling/Reckoning ultimately serves as a fantastic choice for folk fans who don't mind being led to unfamiliar territory by a trusted, seasoned vet.
