Picking up where the first volume left off, His Best, Vol. 2 runs through Chuck Berry's best-known singles in 1958 with "Sweet Little Rock and Roller" and runs through 1972, when he inexplicably had his first number one record with "My Ding-a-Ling." In addition to hits like "Let It Rock," "Little Queenie," "Almost Grown," "Nadine," "No Particular Place to Go," "You Never Can Tell," and "Promised Land," there are lesser-known gems like "Jo Jo Gunne," making it more than just a rote greatest-hits collection. No matter how good the two-part His Best series is -- and for fans that don't want to spring for The Chess Box, it's the best way to assemble a reasonably comprehensive Chuck collection -- it's still a shame that Chess decided to delete the flawless single-disc compilation The Great Twenty-Eight in favor of this series.
